How to choose the best greenhouse size

When a quality greenhouse appears on the site, you can get a rich harvest from it. Today we’ll talk about how to choose the best greenhouse size for your garden and what is important to consider when placing a greenhouse on your site. We share with you a useful and simple instruction.

1. Greenhouse size

The first thing to do is to choose the greenhouse size. The most suitable standard option is 9×21 feet.

In our store you can order a greenhouse of a suitable size. Available options:

  • length: 7, 12, 14, 21, 28, 35, 41 feet;
  • width: 7 or 9 feet;
  • height: about 7 feet.

*the exact dimensions of each greenhouse are indicated in the product description.

2. Beds and rows

Next, think about the number of beds and rows: it is better not to make beds too wide and narrow passages, especially when it comes to tomatoes. In narrow aisles, it will be inconvenient for you to take care of the planted seedlings and cut the leaves. The width of the passage is better to make at least 20 inches, ideally 30-35 inches, but this is for wide greenhouses.

In a regular width greenhouse, you should make 3 beds. You will be more comfortable working in the greenhouse if the length of the middle bed is 20-30 inches shorter. You should make beds about 15 inches high.

3. Free space

When building a greenhouse in your garden, you should leave free space to fences, sheds and trees. And before you place it, you need to consider a number of the following criteria.

 Sunny side

It is better to put the structure in the warmest and sunniest place where the shadow does not fall. It is best when the sun enters the greenhouse in the morning.

Strong winds

In early spring and late autumn, the winds are quite strong, so the wind can cause significant damage to crops. Therefore, it is better not to put a greenhouse in very open and unprotected areas of the garden. To increase resistance against strong winds, you can order the Storm Kit.

Terrain

Damp soil always promotes the growth of fungi and bacteria. Therefore, it is better not to put a greenhouse in a lowland where water flows from heavy rains or snow. It is better to put it on an elevated terrain or plain.

And remember that you should also take into account the installation of the greenhouse on the foundation. This will save about 10% of the thermal effect, especially in the spring and autumn periods with frosts. Thanks to the foundation, the frame becomes much stronger. We advise you to install the greenhouse on a foundation made of timber in order to make the structure heavier, due to which it will become much more reliable.
